The town of Onagawa, in the 70 odd years since its inception in 1926, has managed to attain its current levels of prosperity thanks to two major factors: firstly, its beautiful environment, situated as it is in an unspoilt and fertile area next to an ocean abundant in marine live: and secondly, the unceasing efforts of those that have gone before us to carve out a unique culture and traditions, of which we are now the keepers.
Now, against an ever more severe socioeconomic backdrop, we find ourselves faced with new challenges: population decrease, the graying of society, the high speed growth of information technology; and above all, the need to actively build policies suited to the area that we live in, and that can adapt to the diversifications currently required of local administration.
I would like to work together with each and every citizen here to strive for a town in which all can lead a safe, happy and healthy life in harmony with the environment, taking the following as our guiding principle: "A Vibrant Community Fortunate in its People and its Environment".
To all those reading our website, I would like to humbly request your understanding and your cooperation to work towards the betterment of our town of Onagawa.
